Free up storage in two minutes

A nearly full Fire TV Stick becomes slow and drops streams. Clear space like this:

  1. Open the app list

    Settings → Applications → Manage Installed Applications.

  2. Clear cache on big apps

    Select each large app and choose Clear cache (not Clear data, which signs you out).

  3. Uninstall what you do not use

    Games and trial apps take the most space.

Speed fixes for buffering

  • Restart properlySettings → My Fire TV → Restart, or unplug for 30 seconds.
  • Check Data MonitoringSettings → Preferences → Data Monitoring. If it is on, it can lower video quality — turn it off on unlimited broadband.

Installing apps

Install from the Amazon Appstore — and ignore "download codes"

Videos and forums often tell Fire TV owners to enable "apps from unknown sources" and enter download codes for unofficial apps. That is how malware gets onto streaming sticks. We recommend apps that are available in the Amazon Appstore; if one is not listed in your country, ask us for a safe alternative.

Pin the player app to the front of your home screen: hold Home → Apps, highlight the app, press the Options button (three lines) and choose Move to front.

My Fire Stick says it is low on storage. Will that affect IPTV?

Yes. Below a few hundred megabytes free, apps start slowly and streams drop. Clear app caches and remove unused apps using the steps above.

The remote does not work inside the app.

Restart the stick; if that does not help, re-pair the remote by holding Home for ten seconds. Some player apps use the Menu (three lines) button for their options.

Can I take my Fire Stick on vacation?

Yes. Plug it into the hotel or rental TV, connect to the Wi-Fi and the app signs in as usual. Hotel networks with a login page can be tricky — a phone hotspot is a useful fallback.
