IPTV on your Smart TV: Samsung, LG and Android TV

If your TV has an app store, it can probably run Gamma IPTV with no extra box. The first job is to find out which system your TV uses — the rest is a five-minute setup.

Step zero

Which system does your TV run?

The brand on the front of the TV tells you most of what you need. The model year — found in the settings menu — tells you the rest.

Setup

Five-minute setup on Samsung and LG

  1. Update the TV software

An out-of-date TV is the most common reason an app will not install or open.

  2. Install the recommended app

Search for it in the TV's app store. If the app shows a device ID or MAC address, send us a photo of it.

  3. Enter your login

Use the details from your activation message. A USB keyboard plugged into the TV makes typing much quicker.

  4. Let the guide load

Give the first load a minute, then add favorites so the TV opens on the channels you use.

Picture settings worth a minute

  • Motion smoothing for filmsTurn off "Auto Motion Plus" (Samsung) or "TruMotion" (LG) if films look like soap operas. Keep it on for sport if you prefer.
  • Picture modeMovie or Filmmaker mode gives more natural colors than the bright shop-floor default.
  • Energy savingEco modes can dim the picture and slow the processor; try switching them off.
  • A proper restartMany TVs only sleep when you press Off. Unplug for 30 seconds when apps start misbehaving.

Good to know

When a streaming stick beats the TV's own apps

Smart TV processors age faster than the screens they sit in. If your TV is more than five or six years old, slow to open apps, or cannot find a suitable player in its store, a stick plugged into the HDMI port usually gives a quicker, more up-to-date experience.

Questions

Smart TV questions

Why can I not find the app on my Samsung or LG TV?

App stores differ by model year and country. Update the TV first; if the app still does not appear, send us your model number and we will suggest an alternative that is listed for your TV.

Is a Smart TV app as good as a streaming stick?

On a recent TV, yes — and it saves a remote. On older TVs a stick is usually faster and gets app updates for longer.

Can I connect the TV with a cable instead of Wi-Fi?

Most Smart TVs have an Ethernet port on the back. If your router is nearby, a cable is the single best upgrade for live sport and HD channels.
